Bear vs Deer

I've been here for a month and a half. I've wandered the streets, met the denizens and come home clean. This town, some say, can eat you up alive. You have to be fast on your feet and tongue. I had to prove I belonged here. I wonder if they can tell I'm not a native. Yet. On the drive down, we stopped to visit my friend's brother at a monastery. He's going to be a priest. Overlooking a town in Oregon, the view took your breath away--you can see houses darting the landscape as it stretched around us for miles. My friend's brother took us to the hidden museum where a patron of the monastery had bequeathe some odd ball items to the place--a replicate of the crown of thorn complete with 9 inch nails, African and Asian cultural identifiers, four legged calves and other sideshow oddities and huge glass cases filled with stuffed animals all in the act of mauling each other. How fitting, eh?
